The enzymes bind with the reactants and, through a series of chemical reactions, are destroyed along with the reactants, forming new products. Suicide enzymes, unlike allosteric enzymes, are involved in the reaction and are destroyed in the process.

Therefore, reversible and irreversible reactions require different types of enzymes. Allosteric enzymes, which do not participate in the reaction, are required for reversible reactions. On the other hand, irreversible reactions require suicide enzymes, which are destroyed in the process of producing the final products and do not survive the reaction.
